Siding and exterior work
New siding, trim, soffit and fascia, installed over a wall that is dry, flat and wrapped properly.
Langille Concrete & Contracting replaces siding and exterior trim on homes in New Glasgow and Pictou County. We strip the old siding, repair any damaged sheathing, wrap and flash the walls so water is shed outward, then install new siding, trim, soffit and fascia. You get one itemized written quote after a site visit.
What’s included
Your written quote lists each of these as its own line, so you can see what you are paying for.
Strip and inspect
Old siding removed so we can see the wall behind it.
Sheathing repairs
Soft or damaged sheathing replaced.
House wrap
Lapped to shed water and taped at seams and openings.
Window and door flashing
Openings flashed so water can’t get behind the trim.
Siding and trim
Installed straight, level and fastened to allow movement.
Soffit and fascia
Vented soffit for the attic and fascia to finish the roof edge.
How we build it
This is our standard, not an add-on. If your job needs something different, the quote says so in writing.
| Layer | Our standard | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Old siding | Removed, not covered over | Hidden water damage gets found |
| Sheathing | Damaged sections replaced | A sound base for everything else |
| Wrap | Lapped shingle-style, taped | Water is shed out, not in |
| Openings | Windows and doors flashed | Most wall leaks start at openings |
| Air gap | Strapping for a rainscreen where suited | Walls dry out between storms |
| Siding | Fastened to allow expansion | No buckling in summer heat |
When should siding be replaced?
Cracked, warped, loose or faded siding is the visible sign. The more important signs are behind it: soft spots in the wall, staining inside around windows, or peeling paint on interior walls. Those mean water is already getting past the siding.
Which siding should I choose?
Vinyl is the most common choice here: affordable and low-maintenance. Wood and engineered wood look more traditional and need paint or stain over time. We install the siding you choose, and we will talk through the trade-offs honestly at the site visit.
Whichever you pick, the wrap, flashing and fastening underneath matter more to how long it lasts than the siding itself.
What is a rainscreen?
A rainscreen is a small air gap between the siding and the wall, usually made with vertical strapping. Any water that gets behind the siding can drain and the wall can dry. On exposed coastal walls it is often worth the extra step.
Can new siding make my house warmer?
It can, if we add rigid insulation over the sheathing before the new siding goes on. That reduces heat loss through the studs. It changes the trim details around windows and doors, so we plan it at the quote stage.
What affects the price of siding?
Wall area, the number of storeys, the number of windows and doors to trim around, the siding you choose, and how much sheathing repair the wall needs once the old siding is off. The quote lists sheathing repair separately, because it can’t be seen until the wall is open.
Common questions
Still wondering about something? Call 782-440-7851.
Can you repair a section of siding?
Often, yes, if matching siding is still available. Langille will tell you whether a repair will blend in or whether a full wall makes more sense.
Do you replace soffit and fascia?
Yes. Langille installs vented soffit and new fascia, usually alongside siding or roofing work.
How long does a siding job take?
Most houses take one to two weeks depending on size and weather. Langille opens up only as much wall as can be wrapped the same day.
